Who are the Westchester Knicks?
The Westchester Knicks are the exclusive NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, a charter member of the NBA and one of the most iconic names in professional sports. The NBA D-League is the official minor league of the NBA, providing hardcore basketball fans with access to NBA prospects being groomed to impact the next level through high-level competition and comprehensive training and instruction.
The Dub Knicks play all 24 regular-season home games at the Westchester County Center in White Plains; only ten minutes from the Knicks Practice Facility in Greenburgh. The regular season runs November – April with playoffs culminating at the end of April.
On March 10th, 2014, the NBA, The Madison Square Garden Company, and Westchester County announced the establishment of the 18th franchise in the NBA Development League and Westchester County’s first ever professional sports franchise. A name-the-team contest saw them adopt the Knickerbocker moniker of their NBA affiliate, as well as the classic orange, blue, and white color scheme that has become synonymous with New York basketball. On May 14th, County Executive Rob Astorino unveiled the logo and team name of the Westchester Knicks. The team played its first regular-season game at the Westchester County Center on November 19, 2014 in front of a sold out crowd.
What can I expect at a Westchester Knicks game?
During games, fans can expect a festive, family-friendly environment, highlighted by dancers and off-the-court fun. They can also expect to see some of the sport’s rising stars before they move on to the NBA.
